Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of energy healing. It is an ancient healing art probably originating in Tibet and practiced by Buddhist’s dating back approximately 2500 years; it means Universal Life Force energy. This traditional laying on of hands healing method is universal throughout history in many cultures, but the term Reiki is Japanese. The more modern day Japanese form of Reiki or ‘hands on healing’ is known as the Usui system and was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1800s then brought to this country in the 1930's.
Traditionally Reiki is taught in three levels of training and the word ‘Reiki’ is a combination of 2 Japanese words, Rei and Ki pronounced as 'ray~key'. Reiki is not a religion though as it holds no creed or doctrine, nor is it an instant therapy that promises a quick cure.
Reiki is performed through a technique similar to the laying on of hands uses energy channelled through the practitioner. Reiki is a simple, natural healing technique which is also used for relaxation and stress reduction that often promotes healing. Reiki is always completely safe and appropriate making it suitable for everyone - children and adults using a natural, safe process for self-healing on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Many negative aspects in our lives that may have taken years to harm the mind, body, or spirit require time to release.
Reiki is a gentle holistic healing method that complements traditional medicine and is gaining worldwide popularity. In the United States, Reiki is part of complementary and alternative medicine (also known as CAM). Reiki is not limited to treating only people and can be transmitted to animals, plants, relationships, situations, machinery, etc.
Reiki does not require any elaborate rituals or any material objects to give it strength. Practitioners spend many hours in study with their teacher learning and practicing self-healing and self-growth. Multiple Reiki sessions or hours of Reiki training are most beneficial. Many Reiki Masters organise introductions, so you can see and experience for yourself what Reiki is, what the Reiki Master is like and whether you ’connect’. The number of things that you will become empowered to influence for the better with Reiki is limited only by your creative vision sense of possibilities.
