What Is Reki?

Reiki is...
  • A completely natural phenomenon.
  • A part of every person.
  • Probably one of the oldest forms of healing known to man.

Yes it has been modernised, split into many pieces, given different names such as Usui, Sechem etc., but fundamentally it is the same basic healing method known in ancient times.

Many of you will skip past this article because you know what Reiki is, others will be as ignorant as I was in the beginning, so this is mainly for you. Would you like to see just how ignorant I was? Well so you shall. I went to have a relaxing Reflexology and floated off nicely. Feeling very relaxed at the end of the session I said that I felt as if my arms were floating in the air although I could see them on the chair arm. Conversation led from one thing to another and Sarah, the reflexologist, said I should learn Reiki and should phone her Reiki Master as soon as I got home. I assured her I had no intention of learning any new healing methods at my age! I was then 65 yrs old [I have been a natural healer since the, remembered, age of four and could see no reason to add to that] .

She said that I was a perfect age as I now had no other commitments of children or work. To cut this a bit shorter, I agreed to call the said ‘Teacher’ when I returned home. It was now around 9.30pm, but I had promised to make the call and I did. The consequence of this was a long, general chat about what Reiki could do and what it could be used for. Before I really thought about it I knew this was for me. I booked a time and date to be attuned to Reiki. By this time it was near midnight. I was going the next week to be attuned. I knew what it did. But, hells bells, what was it? I had no idea! Well Sarah had got me in to this, so, late or not she was getting a phone call here and now! The upshot of all this was a full Reiki treatment a few days later.

Reiki Hand ImageSo what happened? At first, it seemed, not a lot. I lay, fully clothed, on a bed with a blanket over me. Soft music was playing and the air smelled fragrant from incense. The only light was from candles. Very relaxing in itself. Now I must say here and now that none of these things are in anyway essential. You could just as easily be on a bench in the middle of the high street and, not to draw too much attention, the healer could just be holding your hand. Reiki will "know where to go" and you will still feel better in 99.99999% cases. However, I had "the perfect" first treatment. Sarah placed her hands on me in different places over the course of the next hour. Generally following the ‘chakra’ areas, but not totally. At the end of the time I felt better than I had in years. I have to say I was not a well woman at that time. I had suffered two heart attacks, had, and still have, degenerative arthritis and so on. I had my answer... I could do this.
