The Sleeping Giant

A friend recently told me about a landmark in the Swansea valley that I hadn’t heard of, but one I intend to take a look around at my next visit to the area.

The hillside known as ‘The Cribbarth’, is a large hill overlooking  the Village of Abercrave (Abercraf), and has the form of a sleeping giant, a well known landmark in the Swansea Valley.  The giant even has a collar and a belt although that isn’t very clear in the photo.  The valley is known by the local people as the “Valley of the Sleeping Giant”.  Legend has it that the giant will one day waken from his slumber and come to the aid of the people when he’s really needed.

The best view of the Sleeping Giant is from the main A 4067 road just North of Caerbont and one mile South of Abercrave (abercraf) Village.

Try as I might, I couldn’t find much more information on the subject but I will get a better picture when I do visit the area.

If anyone else has additional information and a clearer picturen then I would be happy to include it here.
