Alternative Energy

Alternative Energy Resources

I believe that for a great deal of the time, most of us forget just how many alternative sources of energy this planet and the Sun can provide us with.  Our ancesters used some of these to power devices thousands of years ago albeit not for creating electricity.

The windmill, used for the production of flour for generations to name just one.  The modern day example shown below is used to generate electricity and the numbers we will see are set to increase.

Wind Farm

You either love the sight of them or hate them but they are just one of many resources we have that can produce energy cheaply and with minimal impact in the environment and if you don’t agree, consider the sight of oil refineries and power stations.

Other, free power sources come from the following:
  • Sun, in the form of solar power, although solar panels can work anywhere they are more efficient in sun drenched locations.  Point of interest;  every 45 minutes, enough solar energy is absorbed by planet Earth to supply the world for a whole year!
  • Wind
  • Wave
  • Tides
  • Water (Hydro-Electric etc.)
  • Geo-Thermal
There are other options as well but these are the most convenient and recognizable.  However, there are more than enough free, clean, natural energy sources on this planet to meet our needs.  How much longer will we continue to make excuses as to the reasons why we don’t use them.  Time is running out!
